Here is what you need in order to make that communication effective.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_34\" style=\"width: 209px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-34\" src=\"http:\/\/auctoritas.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/6082847594_dbd316af1a_b-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"Statue of Freedom\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/auctoritas.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/6082847594_dbd316af1a_b-199x300.jpg 199w, http:\/\/auctoritas.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/6082847594_dbd316af1a_b.jpg 680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-34\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Statue of Freedom atop the United States Capitol Building<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Identify Your Representatives<\/h3>\n<p>For your Senator:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/senators\/contact\/senators_cfm.cfm\">The Senate has a page set up with contact information for each Senator<\/a>.\u00a0 Select your state from the drop down, and the remaining two Senators both represent you.\u00a0 Record these phone number and contact them both.<\/p>\n<p>For your Representative:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/senators\/contact\/senators_cfm.cfm\">The House also has a page set up to identify your representative<\/a>.\u00a0 Here you need to enter your zip code.\u00a0 You may further have to enter your address if your zip code is split among congressional districts.\u00a0 Your representative will be shown on the left.\u00a0 Click his or her name and be taken to the individual name.\u00a0 The contact information should appear near the bottom of the page.\u00a0 Record the phone number for their local office.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll note I didn&#8217;t say anything about e-mail or writing a letter.\u00a0 Writing a letter is much better than e-mail, but comes with a long delay.\u00a0 Everything I read suggests e-mail is not taken seriously.\u00a0 Use the phone.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t waste your time with other districts&#8217; representatives or other states&#8217; senators. They don&#8217;t represent you. Your opinions will be disregarded. It could even negatively affect your cause.<\/p>\n<h2>Prepare Your Statement<\/h2>\n<p>Write up what you intend to say.\u00a0 &#8220;I am calling in support of &#8230;&#8221; or &#8220;I&#8217;m calling to object to &#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 Give a simple one sentence reason.\u00a0 I recommend restricting a phone call to a single issue or related set of issues. If you have another topic, call another day. Identify yourself as a <strong>constituent<\/strong> and a <strong>registered voter<\/strong>.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re willing to, <strong>give your name and address<\/strong>, or at least your city, state, and zip code.<\/p>\n<h2>Call<\/h2>\n<p>Speak clearly. Read your statement. Remember to identify yourself as a constituent. Do not yell. Do not swear. That won&#8217;t identify your as passionate.
